What You Can Expect
Transparency is an important part of building trust in any therapeutic relationship. The information below is intended to provide a clear overview of the services offered, including what the process may look like and the associated fees. It is my hope that sharing these details upfront helps provide clarity as you consider your options and supports you in making a thoughtful decision about whether this practice feels like the right fit for you.
Therapy
-
Therapy is a collaborative process designed to support insight, skill development, and meaningful change over time. While therapy can be a powerful space for growth and healing, it is not a quick or automatic solution. Progress requires openness, effort, and active participation from the client and, when working with younger individuals, support and engagement from parents or caregivers as well.
The approach at Peace by Piece is highly individualized and tailored to the specific needs, goals, and concerns each person brings to therapy. Treatment may incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care to help address symptoms and build practical coping strategies.
Therapy is best understood as a supportive process and partnership, offering guidance, perspective, and tools that help individuals and families move toward greater stability, understanding, and find peace by piece.

Assessment
-
Psychological assessment at Peace by Piece is designed to provide a clear, in-depth understanding of the whole person, not just a list of symptoms.
Assessments are best suited for individuals who:
Need a formal diagnosis for school, work, or access to services
Are seeking deeper clarity or confirmation around concerns like autism, ADHD, or other mental health needs
Want a more comprehensive evaluation, beyond what a standard therapy intake provides
Unlike a therapy intake, which focuses on current concerns and helps guide treatment, assessment is a structured, multi-step process that results in a detailed understanding and, when appropriate, a formal diagnosis.
The goal is not just to label symptoms, but to provide meaningful insight and practical recommendations that support next steps, treatment planning, and overall functioning.
-
1. Initial Consultation
A brief 15-minute consultation is offered to discuss the reason for the referral, answer questions about the process, and determine whether the assessment is the right fit.2. Self-Report Measures
Prior to the appointment, a series of questionnaires and self-report measures are completed to help gather background information and better understand presenting concerns.3. Clinical Interview
All assessments include a 2-hour clinical interview, which serves as the foundation of the evaluation process. This interview explores relevant history, current symptoms, functioning, and the broader context of the concerns that brought you in.4. Additional Assessment Components
Depending on the referral question, additional testing may be recommended.Autism Assessment / ADOS
When autism is being considered, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) may be included as part of the evaluation. This is completed on a separate day and typically takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes.IQ Testing
IQ testing is planned to become available by the start of the 2026–2027 school year. Once available, cognitive testing may be incorporated into certain assessments when clinically indicated, or offered as a standalone service depending on the reason for referral.
5. Diagnostic Feedback Session
Following the completion of the assessment process, a 1-hour diagnostic feedback session is provided to review findings, discuss diagnostic impressions when applicable, and offer professional guidance regarding next steps, recommendations, and treatment planning. -
Initial Consultation
15 minutes — no chargeClinical Interview
$1,000 — 2-hour clinical interview
Includes the 1-hour diagnostic feedback sessionADOS
$800 — approximately 40 to 60 minutes, completed on a separate dayIQ Testing
$800 — available starting in the 2026–2027 school year
May be added to an assessment when appropriate or offered as a standalone service once availableFeedback Session (IQ testing only)
$200 — 1-hour session
Applies only when IQ testing is completed as a standalone service without the full clinical interviewCancellation Policy
Assessment appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged based on the amount of time reserved at the standard therapy rate of $160 per hour, rather than the full assessment fee. For example, cancellation of a 2-hour clinical interview within 24 hours would result in a $320 cancellation charge.
Consulting & Speaking
-
Consulting and speaking services through Peace by Piece are grounded in the belief that education is an important part of prevention, early intervention, and meaningful support. The goal of this work is to provide thoughtful, accurate, and clinically grounded information about mental health in a way that is accessible, relevant, and genuinely useful. This work is not rooted in pop psychology or social media-driven misinformation, but in evidence-based understanding, practical application, and real-world relevance.
In addition to speaking engagements, consulting services are designed to support schools, organizations, and community settings in better understanding mental health, neurodivergence, and emotional well-being. Private Pay & Insurance
Peace by Piece operates as a private pay practice, which means services are not billed directly to insurance companies. Many clients appreciate this approach because it allows for greater privacy, flexibility in treatment, and a focus on individualized care rather than insurance-driven limitations.
Although insurance is not accepted directly, many health plans offer out-of-network benefits for mental health services. If your plan includes these benefits, you may be able to receive partial reimbursement for sessions, and payments made for services may count toward your out-of-network deductible depending on your specific plan.
The process typically works as follows:
Pay for sessions directly at the time of your appointment.
Receive a “superbill.” This is an itemized receipt with the information your insurance company needs (such as service and diagnostic codes).
Submit the superbill to your insurance provider through their member portal or claim form.
If your plan includes out-of-network coverage, your insurance company may reimburse a portion of the session fee after you have met your deductible.
Because every insurance plan is different, it can be helpful to contact your provider and ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits, deductible, and reimbursement rate before beginning services.
